V5/V6 Help Please... Re Camshaft Hall Sensor

Just did the Thermo Fan Resistor Mod (To fix fan low speed) and now I'm having issues with the camshaft sensor...
I don't think that it's related, as I followed the guide, and there is no link to the camshaft sensor.

Now, I'm getting a Camshaft Hall Sensor short to ground error on the ECU, and the engine runs like ****.
    00515 - Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40)
    29-00 - Short to Ground
It's missing, and backfiring, and running real rough. Idle is rough, doesn't like to rev above 3000, full throttle has no power, 10% throttle accelerates better than full throttle.

I've disconnected the fans, but no change...

If I disconnect the sensor, the error changes to Open / Short of the Camshaft Hall Sensor...
    00515 - Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40)
30-00 - Open or Short to Plus
The car actually runs a little bit better. Less backfiring, more power, better full throttle power.

There appears to be no short accross any of the pins...
    Multimeter Reading of the sensor
1 (neg of multimeter) To 2 (pos of multimeter) = Open Circuit
1 (neg of multimeter) To 3 (pos of multimeter) = 1.4 M Ohms
2 (neg of multimeter) To 3 (pos of multimeter) = 1 M Ohms
1 (pos of multimeter) To 2 (neg of multimeter) = 14 M Ohms
1 (pos of multimeter) To 3 (neg of multimeter) = 11 M Ohms
2 (pos of multimeter) To 3 (neg of multimeter) = Open Circuit

    Multimeter Reading of the plug
1 (neg of multimeter) To 2 (pos of multimeter) = 15.8 K Ohms
1 (neg of multimeter) To 3 (pos of multimeter) = 700 Ohms
2 (neg of multimeter) To 3 (pos of multimeter) = 2.6 K Ohms
1 (pos of multimeter) To 2 (neg of multimeter) = Unreadable (Fluctuates between a reading, and open circuit)
1 (pos of multimeter) To 3 (neg of multimeter) = 700 Ohms
2 (pos of multimeter) To 3 (neg of multimeter) = 5 K Ohms

Has anyone had similar issues with the camshaft sensor?
Are there any other tests that I can perform?
Is there anyone in the Canberra region that has a spare sensor?? (06A 905 161 A)

    This looks interesting...

Car has always felt underpowered, so timing chains out is possible...

Thank you guys for your insight...
Unfortunately, I don't have access to a scope to fully test the sensor, and at this stage, I don't have access to another sensor...

Seems to be lots of threads about lots of reasons...
    Some good, some bad...

I'm going to check the cam timing tomorrow (damn that's an annoying job to do on these cars) and hopeully that will eliminate at least one possibility...
I just hope that I don't need any tripple square drivers to get to the timing cover off...

    Thanks again guys...
And as always, any other ideas, please let me know... Particilarly 'free' ones to check... lol.

    Update:

I've spent all day on it...
Looks like it was the camshaft...
The shorter one (the one with the camshaft sensor) was definately 1 tooth out to the other one...

I've adjusted it, but managed to break the heater pipe t-piece in the process.
As I don't have water in it, I haven't started it up yet...

Will be trying to get a replacement t-piece tomorrow, so hopefully after that she runs properly again then...

Thanks again guys for your sugestions, and listening to this old man rant... lol.

It runs.... All nice and smooth again...
Thankfully I've put it all back together correctly...

Still waiting on the heater pipe junction (1J0 221 087 D), but it should be in tomorrow morning...

    Root Cause:

Forgot about this earlier, but I believe the root cause for all my pain was due to attempting to start the car whilst in get, and on the ramps after fitting the Heatsinks to the car...

Didn't notice that it was in gear, and when it attepmted to start, it bunnyhopped it's way down the ramps, and I believe that the upper cam chain skipped a tooth due to no oil pressure and the bunnyhopping...

    Thanks again for listening...

    Note to others:
If the car sounds rough, or runs rough, or has loss of power and is giving a "Short to Ground" Camshaft sensor error, check the camshaft timing...
