    Those are nice

I had chrome caps on my wheels for 1 week before they got pinched... They didn't take the valve covers though thankfully.

Now I have black wheels and the 50c ones look much better.
They suit the car, but only put them on when your aware of the car's position at all times, either that or don't park in my suburb!

    Flapper Mod

So holidays up the coast are over. (no one stole my valve caps though, which is good)
I don't go back to work until next tuesday, which gives me time to play with the car.
So I thought I would give the old flapper mod a go. Not just removing the hose but hooking up a switch between the ecu and solenoid as per here. I can' say it went to well. I had all the gear I needed and grabbed a switch, cable and resistors etc and made up the switch.
Then it was time to find the dreaded grey and blue cable. Well buggered if I can find the right one/get to where it should come through. I traced back from the boot well where it runs with a yellow and black cable down the passenger side of the car (I think). It proved too difficult to pull the carpet up/remove the glove box and get to the cables. So I removed all the dash and unscrewed everything in sight on the drivers side. Contorting myself on my back into the foot well, I found lots of cables none of which seem to be the right one. Pinging them out, I can't seem to find the right one. Or get my damn hands into the spots I need. Obviously it would seem that this mod is much easier in the LHD cars.
In the end I gave up and rebuilt my interior and clamped the damn hose.
Lots of fun noise for me but I would like to switch it. Anyone with any ideas/experience?

It's got nearly 81000kms on the clock, but according to the owner at least half was highway driving. The kms are probably close to the highest of any of the R32s in Australia.

The interior is pretty immaculate aside from where the previous owners child put the ambi-pur in upside down and the paint bubbled and peeled just below the air vent. I've touched it up as best I can but it's not that great. I keep it hidden mostly by a non-leakable air freshener.

The exterior has a few scratches around the place (fuel filler cap for starters???). The rear hatch lip has a few on it and one decent one that has appeared recently that I'm not happy about (I don't know where it came from either). The front lip has lots of stone chips on it and there's a few pin dents around the place too. Plus as I said earlier all the wheels are curbed and the original owner didn't clean them often enough so they've got some pitting on them.

Overall it's in pretty good nick but it's nowhere near perfect up close. But because of all this I did pick it up for a pretty good price (don't ask coz I'm not going to tell).
M8 congrats,a nice number 44.....Dont worrie about ks.mine has more than that and they are only highway ks.....Just keep those services up!JVL

Cheers mate. Yeah I'm not worried about the ks. It's had a full VW service history including one a week before I finalised the sale and did the hand over. Don't worry I won't be skimping on the servicing.
Are you still looking at selling yours or have you decided to keep it?
    Cheers

this solenoid thing... i still can't read anywhere what it specifically is? seems to be something to do with loudness of exhaust??? please explain

The solenoid controls a gate with in the exhaust to open/close a section when under full acceleration. If it's not under full acceleration it keeps the gate closed to keep the noise levels down. Removing it or keping it open gives the R32 a nice tone all the time plus a few extra ponies .

There's a flap in the exhaust. At about 3500rpm in third which equals about 70km/h a flap in the exhaust opens causing lots of fun and exciting noise. The flap is driven by a vacuum hose and a solenoid. If the vacuum hose is clamped off (or detached) the flap will stay open thus allowing free exhaust flow and minor power gains throughout the entire rev and speed range.
Basically what I was (and still am) looking to do is to put a switch between the ecu and solenoid to allow me to choose whether to keep the flap always open, always closed or let it operate in its' normal mode.
There's plenty of threads about it over on VWVortex but you need to search in the archived content for it. One of the cheapest and easiest mods you can do to an R32. I think it is possible to do it on the MkVs but as I haven't got one I haven't looked into it.

It's raining. The perfect opportunity to wash the car and take some photos.

Five points if you can spot the golf hiding in this picture.

Pretty easy mod. Spent about half an hour sanding the cap down on the bottom so it would clip in.
how much was the aero wiper arm? where did you get it from?
