It's not a run of the mill common car tho ! So, that might make a bit of difference !

They are good cars but I dont think they are going to ever reach 'classic' status...maybe among vw folk but not mainstream car fans

either way they will continue to depreciate...they were 65K new from memory, VR6's were around 50K new and look what they are worth now!

What would you guys prefer to buy? A 2006 Golf GTI with about 50,000kms on it. Or a 2004 R32 with 70,000kms on it?

Haha good point. Well, give me your reasons as to why you would prefer the mk4.

I sent a 1500 letter to Qld Transport asking why a 90kw golf is considered high powered yet an R32 is not. Cant wait for the reply haha

if it came down to appearance (and exhaust note), the r32 for sure.
but obviously the MKV is newer, and i believe significantly stiffer, better handling and easier to mod

What about in terms of reliability and maintenance costs?

The GTI would be another 10k too wouldn't it? (25-30k vs 20-25k).
The big service is 60,000km for GTI as well so that could add a bit if it's DSG.

Yeah thats true the service would be quite a bit. Will have to see if i can get an exemption to drive a turbo before i buy the GTI anyway.
