Ive got 355mm discs on my FPV (which seems to weigh about 10 tonnes!), but the brakes are quite amazing, though I must admit I dont know if its down to disc size, or the 6 piston calipers.

When the traffic lights go amber, first think I do is check my rear vision mirror, coz I know i will stop, its the car behind me that I worry about.

However, I still think the BIGGEST justification for big discs is that they look so much better and make the wheels look fantastic!!

biggest downsize is the amount of brake dust and the constantly filthy wheels.

You have too much money and time dude.
Do it and let there be awesome.
Do you have to put in new calipers as well?

Well think about it, if the brakes can already apply enough force to lock the wheel, what is the point of going for larger brakes?

Larger brakes only add rotating weight, which decreases accell and increases stopping distances.

The only real plus side to larger brakes is the ability to stop repeatedly without experiencing brake fade.

ie - My current brakes might be able to stop me 2 or 3 times from 150km/h without dramas, but after that braking distances are increased dramatically, bigger brakes won't have the same dramas.

At lower speeds, braking distance is soley a matter of tyre stickiness, weight of the car & the ABS system.

Disagree. You're increasing unlaiden mass. Worse for acceleration/braking in some regards (similar to putting heavy ass chrome rims on).

Practicality wise: bigger brakes are only better for track work, as they handle heat dissipation better/don't fade as easily.

Here's some really tiny brakes working just fine in a race scenario.

I think if you have the chance to do the rears, why not. You can always change them back and sell the 288's if they adversely affect your car.

I always thought there was supposed to be a brake valve that sat between the front and rear brakes, Proportioning valve maybe ? That would prevent the rear locking before fronts. But yeah, I reckon the electronics would have no problems with bigger rears.

Some interesting articles on this website about enlarging rear brakes as well as changing your brakes in general. Makes for some very interesting reading.
