    Towbar on a 2002 Golf

A neighbour is wanting a Towbar fitted on her mkIV golf, she has been quoted around $700 - I thought this sounded expensive? Anyone recommend anyone around the Maitland/Newcastle area?

Sounds about right, considering the threads in the Passat forum where it is closer to $2000.
Online store about $425 for the bar and $80 postage, then you have to DIY fit.
Another mob in Sydney do it $575 installed.

i got a genuine vw mk4 towbar from klosters in newcastle for about $300 about 6months ago. Fitted it myself, really wasn't too hard. The only negative about it was they said vw didn't do a plug in wiring harness for it which was a bit surprising, there is actually spare connectors on the back of the lights that i presume are for the trailer wiring... Anyway I ended up using a generic wiring kit and splicing in the wiring manually.

I fitted one of these from haymen reese
    Hayman Reese - 01666 - haymanreese

Then bought the above plug and play harness (for $124).

Drilling and cutting is required for the Haymen Reese set-up though (very easy and not noticeable)

Just a note, the plug/play harness is obsolete according to VW and I did not get one.

ahjk, that explains why the gimps at klosters said they dont do them, i just thought they were too lazy for it properly in the system. Actually thats the problem with that kind of dealer, they sell parts for half a dozen different makes out of the one place there, the guys there never really get to know the brand properly and just rely totally on the computer lookup which isn't always foolproof.

    Yeah, unlucky me.
Apparently VW Germany can't decide if they do or don't keep the part anymore, in my case/yours, they don't.
