    Tommo's MKIV .:R32

    Hey everyone,

My names Tom, and I bought my deep blue pearl MKIV R32 about 5 months ago. It is number 180. I bought it from a fellow forum member from Townsville (DOC of VWgolf forum) who, previous to that, brought it over from WA. After short deliberation and a whirlwind trip up to Townsville, I purchased it and had it transported down to Sydney. I had spent a long time searching for an example of this car, with such low mileage and in fantastic condition.

So far I am loving this car! So much fun to drive, makes a bloody awesome noise, and turns a lot of heads.

So far I have just been doing general upkeep on the car - new key, oil change, rear brakes, antennae base seal, aux input for factory stereo.

    Planned mods:
    GruppeM air intake
Front number plate delete, smooth & re-spray
    Cupra R front lip
    Stubby antennae
    US spec taillights
Short shifter kit – any suggestions/recommendations?

Thinking about possible doing some suspension work, but need to do some more research on what options there are and see what setups people are running and what peoples recommendations are. Any input on this would also be helpful ☺

Welcome! Very nice example of the MK4 R32 Tommo, look forward to seeing what you do with it. Might want to take a look at the Diesel Geek short shifter. http://www.dieselgeek.com/6_Speed_VW.../ss-sigma6.htm

In the suspension department mate I would recommend having a read of this thread - Lowering my mk4 R32?? MK4 R32 suspension - opinions wanted There is a plethora of information on MK4 R32's on this forum on all modifications and reviews. A number of places recommend KW's and Bilstein's for their adjustability, quality and setup. If you don't plan on tracking your MK4 R32 I don't see why height and damper adjustable coilovers are needed. Have you thought about getting the Euro suspension with H&R lowering springs and Bilstein struts?

    Time for an update!

    Gotta love presents

But don't you hate it when you've been waiting for a month for something to show up only to find this...not surprising when it was flat packed and not protected at all, all the way from Germany...

So I fitted my GruppeM intake, looks and sounds the goods!

    Before:

    After:

And my DieselGeek short shifter, feels good!

    Before:

    After:

I found shortly after I bought the car, that the drivers side headlight had bugs and dirt in it.

Upon inspection, I found the retaining tabs for the headlight backing cover were broken, leaving the light open to the elements. So I went to VW and got a new cover. This meant the headlight had to come out for cleaning and replacement of the cover, which was a delicate operation...I also upgraded my high beam globes to some Narva "Plus 120's"

    Broken retaining tabs

    New backing cover

    Clean headlight

When I pulled the front bumper off to fix the headlight, I found this. As you can see the rio is bent...

I took the car to a panel beater mate of mine and got him to respray the front bumper and fill and smooth over the number plate backing holes. I also got him to fix up the rio as best as he could. I asked him to have a go at fitting the Cupra R lip too, but he told me that it wasn't going to sit right and wouldn't look any good, as he would have to cut it up to make it fit. Sounds like I might have to do some more research on this though.

Also I decided to test my patience and cut out the passenger side grill.

Photos of the front end to come as I am currently in the process of replacing the alternator.
