    throttle body

Mk 4 golf - sorry forgot to chuck it in the title.

hey guys ive seen a few threads about this (being that alot of people have had uneven revs and the revs fluctuating) and have checked all the things that you guys have mentioned ( vacuum leaks, also tried to clean out my throttle body) but its still happening.. even got my step dad to look at it and he's a mechanic said its most likely the throttle body itself as my accelerator sometimes feels abit 'sticky' as in wen i accelerate and then release the throttle the car takes a few seconds to realise my foot isnt on the accelerator and the revs are still indicating my foot is on the accelerator then it drops..

just wandering if anyone else has had the same problem and if so how much would it be to replace the existing throttle body? just a ballpark figure is fine ill have to take it to get a quote again.

just annoys me as ive had it serviced 2x in the last 3000kms and mentiond it to both mechanics and they seem to tell me there is nothing wrong, when clearly there is.

    cheers

I haven't had my accelerator stick like you've described but I do get the opposite sometimes, ie when I put my foot on the pedal to accelerate there is sometimes a bit of a surge after a slight delay. My TB has been cleaned out a few times but it does keep faulting, kicks up the revs etc and throws a fault code. I've noticed when it does fault, the air con cuts out too as the TB sensor must get a faulty reading and then the air con compressor shuts off from the ECU.

I got an approximate price of about $900 some time ago from my mech, so decided I'll just live with it and get it cleaned out & reset every so often. It's a bit annoying coming into summer though when the a/c stops running! You can switch the car off and restart as a temp fix, usually works lol.

By the way, if a non VW mechanic services the TB, they probably don't perform the necessary reset after it is cleaned out etc. There is a procedure to run through VAGCOM which resets it after a clean/replacement etc.

I didn't think that was super necessary? I cleaned my throttle body out and haven't done that yet. But I was told they adjust themselves as other wise anytime you disconnect your battery you would need to get the throttle body recalibrate.

Yeah it may only be required when the battery is disconnected, not 100% sure...
