Curious,

Are throttle bodies interchangeble between mk4 golf models?

In theory yes but because it works on one car does not mean it will work on another.
They also need setting up with Vag Com or similar.

Are you trying to avoid buying a new one? Have you had the current one serviced? Mine was cleaned & that certainly made a difference (reduced rough idle if you've come across that). I'd rather that than $800+ for a new one! But I'd be wary of buying a 2nd hand one unless you're don't mind having to get it serviced later on or worse have to get another replacement...
