Can we please keep this on topic - this is not a debate on if your mechanic is better than some one elses.

I purchased my golf with similar km's to yours. My advice would be to get a copy of the log book and ring the places where it had been serviced to find out if expensive items such as timing belt and water pump had been changed. I bought my car well aware of it's history and was able to use that as bargaining power.
