Is there any Exhaust Options for Bora V5?

    Hello Volks

It seems to me that the Volkswagen VR5 engine is an engine that everyone forgets. It is not as powerful as a VR6, not as tunable as an 1.8T, nor is it as economical as a 2.0 or a diesel, therefore it is not as popular amongst VW buyers and enthusiasts.

However, I for one is so in love with it's 5 cylinder noise that I bought one. And to make things worse, I decided that I want to hear a bit more of the 5 cylinder noise. That means I'm in search for exhaust or muffler upgrade for my car. But because of its unpopularity, I found it near impossible to find any exhaust that is specifically for the VR5 engine. And very little information online about people who's done anything to it.

In regards to cat back systems:
Some companies claims that their VR6 front wheel drive cat back exhaust system will fit a VR5, some companies say that their 1.8T exhaust system is shared with VR5. The VR5 feels like it's neither here nor there. I don't want to gamble hundreds of dollars on a system knowing that it's not for my engine and I may end up losing power.

In regards to just rear muffler:
I had a very unpleasant experience with a rear muffler mod last week, at cruising speed (rev 2k-3k), the drone from the muffler is so bad that the whole car vibrates like a sub woofer, and I can hear the windows are at the edge of shattering, and rear view mirrors are about to fell off. And the exhaust shop told me that the drone is part of the exhaust noise and because a universal muffler is designed for even number cylinder engines, they won't match the frequency of a 5 cylinder engine and the resonance won't cancel out, so the drone will always be there.
After a day of insufferable ear pain, I put the stock rear muffler back.

In regards to custom exhaust systems:
It's always a risk and try and error to make a custom exhaust sounds just the way you want. And I can waste loads of money trying things out with many exhaust shops and end up not getting the noise I want and getting both me and the exhaust shops frustrated.

So here is a first world problem, I'm now stuck and left to believe that there may be no exhaust options for a VR5 engine and I should just forget about hearing my VR5 engine noise. If I want to hear a 5 cylinder noise I should just go and buy an Audi TTRS or Audi Quattro, or putting a TTRS engine in my Bora (has this been done before)

Or is there an exhaust upgrade for the VR5 engine that I don't know about?
    Could anyone please help me?

    Thank you!

    Edwin

PS: if my measurement is correct, the stock exhaust tubing on my car is 2.25 inch.

There are several supercharger kits for the VR5 so I would definitely assume there are exhaust options out there. Probably just very hard to find in comparison to the usual VR6 and 1.8T

Thank you Jed for the links. I see the Sport Flow and Milltek have pipe diameter of 2.5 inch (the VR6 size), will it reduce exhaust scavenging of the V5 due to increase of size and result in lost of power?

I have a Remus sports exhaust on my v5, makes a great noise but I would like it a little louder, so im considering having the middle muffler removed. The remus muffler was designed for the 1.8t apparently and the pipe was .5 of an inch to large so the shop just made a joiner for it and it all sits together nicely. Im fairly sure the hangers were even in the right places.

Is your Remus a cat back system? or is it just the muffler?
