Suspension advice and Window Trim Questions

Hi all, Well just put on 17' rims. Fist time in twenty five years I have had low profile tyres. Made the car a little more solid and would have to say I had the real misconception that they would make the car drive as rough as guts. Mind you I would not go any lower with tyres, I like my comfort too much and SA roads are ****.
This brings me to the first question, I was thinking of getting JOM coil overs just to lower the car an inch or two and close up the gap between the tyres and guards. I am now sure I do not want to do this as the ride would be to uncomfortable and stiff for my partner and I. Lowered springs would possibly stuff the current shocks by introducing dirt and contaminants past the seal as they would sit lower...and so far springs look to be $200 and higher while the complete JOM setup would be less than $400 landed. I'm looking for advice and suggestions of which way I should head.

The other question is did any Mk4 Bora/Jetta come out with chrome trim around the windows? I like the look and would be keen to add to my sedan. Or would there be something from Audi that would fit on?

Oh and the chrome strip on the right hand rear door ripped off the other day Anyone know where I can get a new one. the plastic trim is still there, just the chrome bit missing.

Hope to order a short shifter from the states soon as well, then almost everything I wanted will be done, anyone used one and happy with it?

Im in for info on the JOMs, They are about $400 cheaper than anything else I have seen available in Australia. Apparently they are more or less the same as FK's, just branded differently.

As for the chrome window trim, its not my taste but i have seen stuff on Ebay (I don't trust fitment or quality is the only problem)

I have one of my chrome rubstrips held on by 3m tape right now, If your chrome strip isnt too damaged I'd recommend at least giving it a go.

Just looking at the price of the JOMs im going to say they are not going to ride how you want them.
you dont want to go a lower profile then 225/45/17 because you like the comfit, but you want coilovers? Unless your getting bags comfit and low dont generally mix
I hear good things about H&R ultra low coilovers, apparantly they ride like a sports pack, other then that your not going to get the smooth and soft ride of the 225/45s...

I don't have much experience with coilovers but my understanding is that any coilover that does not have adjustable damping will be a pretty rough ride.

I keep finding myself tempted by cheap fixed damping coilovers but I think I'll just ride high until I can afford coilovers with adjustable damping.

I have jom coilovers on my gti and the ride isn't too bad. They're softer than I lot of people think but can be a bit bouncy when going over dodgey roads.. Had mine for about 1.5 yrs and they're still going well.. Asjustability would be good tho.
