ah sweet cheers, yeah when i flick it just goes to the first position. then i have to push the grey cover in myself and then put it to the off position before it will go all the way in...strange.

    Hi Fuzz,

The one on my Jetta opens like the first pic, never tried playing with it to open it all the way, just thought that's how it should be.

    Cheers

As I understand it, the sunroof has 2 open positions. The first, when you turn it anti-clockwise and stop, is a "best position". If you continue to turn it till the knob stops, is open. Then, you obviously have the tilt option if you turn it clockwise.

if i recall on my MK4, not only do you have to flick the switch to the open position, but then twist the switch past the 'open position' for it to go all the way like the second pic

took me a few months before i figured that one out on the GTI *sheepishly*

yea what sierra said! (got your post in whilst i was typing)

yup, it has 2 positions. I had a 1990 Vectra that had the same thing, as well as a 1996 Laguna and a 1991 Soarer. This is my first car without a sunroof!

i'll have another muk around this arvo because when i go anti clockwise all as far as the switch will go i get the first (not completely open) option. then i have to push the cover in myself and switch it back to the closed position, it will start to close and then retract all the way back in.

car is at euro automotive today getting a full service.

oh yeah while i'm writing just a side note, i'm looking at options to stroke out the motor a little more. the '03 GL TDI has a 95.5 mm stroke and the same bore as opposed to the 86.4mm stroke of the GTi. This would increase capacity from 1781 to 1969 and by my calcs would mean increasing the combustion volume from 52.5mm to 58 to retain the 9.5 compression ratio (via the head gasket). Might be an option, has anyone looked at boring or stroking these motors? I'm staring to do the research into this and adding a second larger turbo in a sequential set-up if anyone is interested in these topics. also building a digital tacho which i'm going to put on the dash as a head up display but i'll put that up as a topic later.
