the first position is the recommended position for "minimum air flow interuption" or something like that. basically means that there will be less noise from air flow whilst it is in the recommended position. i always open mine all the way and to be honest i havent noticed any difference

turning the switch clockways has two positions towards the end, which stop slightly as you get to them.

first position stops alot of air entering causing a vortex and buffeting.second(all way) lets more air enter, but allows too much air to enter causing buffeting and alot of that woop woop sound.
    well,thats what I found anyway.

yeah i've had a shocker, when i got my car back from service i twisted it a little further from what seems the natural stop point and voila. cheers for the input.

service was good actually can't believe how much better it is now.

Well I certainly feel like a goose, hopped in my car last night after work and found that extra position that I wasn't aware of! As GPK_GTI said, lots of buffeting, I don't think I'll be using that fully open position.

the first position anti clockwise is normal recommended point for noise reduction, then if you turn and hold slightly further unti clockwise it opens fully. Or clockwise for tilt
