I added aftermarket flipkeys to my 2001 Golf Mk4 that never came with flip keys ("46" Convenience model part number 1J0 959 799 Q).

Further information in my mod-thread here: "Wolfie" Golf Mk4 1,6L AKL 5sp manual DUU - Build :)

To code the transponder I first used VAG K CAN COMMANDER version 1.4 ($16 on eBay) to get the 4-digit PIN/SKC, and then VAGCOM/VCDS to do the instrument cluster immo adaptation procedure.

VAG K CAN COMMANDER is a little different to VAG TACHO described in post #1 here, this is how to do it:

    SECOND WINDOW:

As my cluster was a MOTOMETER unit, it took 3 hours to get the SKC. Have the car on a battery charger. You will see the status bar at the bottom saying "Trying key 0x000 ... trying key 0x001 .... 0x002 ....0x003" etc etc counting all the way up past 0x9ff ... don't stress, eventually it will show the odometer value and PIN/SKC key

Thanks for the info. I think that transponder keys on 10-15 year old cars is a PITA, and wish they could be disabled. You helped save a lot of people a lot of money.

If I have a spare key from a written off Bora, I should be able to get a new key cut and use the innards to make a working key using this method?

I'm pretty sure the keys are write once, as in cannot be paired to another car again later on.

Correct, once the transponder is coded to a car it is locked to it, so you can't use it on another car.

Hey there, I'm in Melbourne too and may need your assistance... Lost my keys so a new one is coming from Volkswagen. Would you be available to come and program the key.... Happy to offer you cash for your time!

    Cheers

What kind of car? I've only done mk4 before, haven't looked into anything newer.

Edit: posting from phone, I didn't remember this was the mk4 section... Assuming you have a mk4, I'd be happy to help.

I'm thinking that I will need to go down this path of replacing the missing spare key. I [will] have a 2007 Skoda Octavia vRS. Would it be dangerous or reasonable to assume that the same parts and steps could be used? Without researching, I am making the assumption that the relevant electronics will be the same as per the Golf.
Does anyone have experience or knowledge to confirm either way? Thanks.
