    Stupid question ....i hope...

Booked in Bora for a "haldex service" ..... european car specialist here in Batemans Bay....
Had to order in correct oil... that sounded good....
Oil arrived, car was dropped off..... car was picked up....
i was removing tow bar from car and thought id have a look at this Haldex thing.... saw the large toothed plug and it was obvious it hadn't been touched in recent times, still had dust etc caked on and around it....
    so question is...
is there any other means that the oil could have been changed without removing this plug ??
Mechanic only used a trolley jack to do job as his hoists were being used for cars waiting on parts....
the noise coming from the rear when cold and turning tight corners hasn't changed at all.... i was hoping a couple of oil changes might have reduced or even stopped the clutches from shuddering.....
    thoughts ??

SO there's a differential as well as the Haldex under the car. The Drain for the Hladex is on the bottom and is a 5 or 6mm allen key. Is that what you can see?

Oil changes rarely fix mechanical issues with the Haldex. You should make sure that the pump is running. Pretty sure you can do this with VCDS. Although if it spins the front wheels easily you can probably assume it isn't.

Drain plug is at the very front of the rear diff assembly.

As Gav said, it's only a small plug.

Did he do the filter as well?

I've had one chirp and skip wheels at low speeds as well. A fluid flush, filter change, and some aggressive driving at low speeds made a massive difference straight away.

    Thanks gavin
ive searched the forums here and what I can see is the haldex filter ..... Obviously not changed !!
The car appears to be in 4wd as it just squats and goes ... I've a 306 gti6 and the bora is no where near the front wheel drive character the pug is .... I'll get a haldex service kit and re do the service myself and include the filter.... I'll also do the diff oil !!
There's articles in the forums about haldex grumbling maybe as a result of incorrect servicing or being overdue .... Changing the oil and filters have cured some of these so here's hoping !!!

Once the car has warmed up the noise is almost gone .....

The original filter from the factory was a metal bodied unit and replacements are plastic. Even dealers who say they have changed the oil sometimes 'forget' to change the filter. I had three changes before I 'found out'.

Make sure no haldex oil has been mistakenly put in the diff otherwise say goodbye to a few thousand dollars. There a many clowns still out there who haven't the slightest idea about haldex systems.
