Not good man!
Sorry if I'm not much help but have you checked your driveshafts, cv's, wheel bearings, ball joints?
Hey guys,
Can anybody help me identify this noise coming from the front of my car?
I heard/felt a loud THUMP around the front left corner while going around a roundabout a few days ago and then again while driving into my driveway. It pretty much felt like i had hit a pot hole and since then the car has made a strange noise whenever i take my foot of the accelerator.
Tonight i stopped at the lights and put the car in 1st, it then wouldn't take off in first gear and felt like i had my handbreak on everytime i tried to take off. Since then, whenever i take my foot off the accelerator the car makes an even louder noise that sounds like a mixture of grinding and something flapping around in the front. It is louder when in gear but also noticable in neutral.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope it is not but I think you may have lost your crown wheel rivets.
Mine went in similar fashion.
Hit a huge pot hole, then the noise started. I thought I had a flat. Car drove OK for a day or 2 before dying. I was lucky it did not punch a hole in the casing. mechanic knew as soon as he drained the gearbox oil and a rivet head fell out.

MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.
Thought it was CV's at first man but them and the driveshafts are all fine. I thought it might be some type of bearing or something to do do with gearbox (which i hope not lol)
I didn't actually hit a pothole, that's just what it sounded/felt like. The car made a massive clunk noise like the wheel had hit something but there is no holes or bumps on the road i was on

Common diff failure. You should have had it looked at when it first happened.Driving it around has most likely damaged it beyond repair.
you ended keeping the MK4 dude?
When was your clutch last changed?
Bit left of field - but you might have a case of a really badly slipping clutch and a busted flywheel?
Otherwise, if you can't find anything obvious in the suspension & driveshafts then it's likely to be a diff/gearbox issue.
Have you tested your bearings for play? You do this by lifting the car and grabbing the wheel at 12 & 6 o clock and trying to shake it.
Do the same horizontally to check for ball joint play.
It'd be worth checking out your driveshafts as well. Find a court and turn your car lock-to-lock both directions for any clicking noises.
