Are stock MK4 Golf GL/GLE rear springs the same as GTI ones?

    Hi guys,

Question: Are stock MK4 Golf GL/GLE rear springs the same as GTI ones?

Context: Yesterday I went to look at a few parts from a MK4 GTI part out, and was looking at rear suspension springs. I was told the tall (compared to my FK springs) plain black rear springs were from a GTI, and were 30mm shorter than standard springs. But I thought my old springs (from the 1.6L GL/E) were the same as GTI rear springs?? I know the front ones are different on a GTI as the engine is heavier..

Reason: I want to know as I was going to buy them to lift the back of my car back up just a little bit, as my FK AK Street coilovers on the rear are already wound up to nearly the top, but still a tiny bit too low. Mostly for a bit more comfort driving around the city with all the speed humps etc on my route every day. But I DEFINITELY don't want it back to stock height... I'll throw up the pics I took yesterday of how my rears are sitting..

im pretty confident they are lower from the GTi,
but not 30mm, only like 15mm. off the top of my head anyway.
Might be best to find some eibach springs second hand or something...?

    Ok just measured them up...

Keep in mind, the 1.6 needs new struts, top mounts and tyres,

GTI has fairly nice suspension and new tyres...

With that in mind , the GL was 8mm higher.. so add in a new mount and tyre... would be in the ballpark of 10mm-15mm.. like what Dylan said.

Sorry about the **** measurements, best I could do without having the springs out.

Thanks mate! Good enough to give me an idea that they're different, but not that different! Not enough difference for me.

do you even own a commodore, bro? lol.
or find some out of a super high km car and hope they have sagged a bit or you could get them reset a few mm at your local suspension place. they were going to do it to mine when I was going to swap some new after market shocks in way back in the day
