    Steering wheel audio controls?

    Hi all,

Has anyone successfully installed controls on the steering wheel to control a head unit. The location of the radio in the centre console is hard to get to while looking on the road - very distracting to try and change a station/song.

I've looking into mk5 &mk6 golf steering wheels but I've read about them being dual stage airbags that and therefore wouldn't deploy in the bora which is a single stage. I'm confident with wiring things in but im more concerned with legalities and having a working airbag!

Anyone ever seen the "Clasico" (mk4 bora in Mexico with mk6 wheel) steering wheel installed on a audm bora?

I've seen 4 spoke steering wheels for the mk4 with controls, could the controls be modded to fit on the bora 3 spoke?

Or is there any other generic option?

    Appreciate any help !

    Thx

I have a mk6 wheel with controls yet to be put into my mk4 Golf - I've seen youtube vids and forum posts (elsewhere) where these have been made to work, but I cannot for the life of me find a really good how to thread.

Here is some airbag info though:

Just recently I retrofitted the steering wheel audio controls to the prado.
I used later model steering wheel but luckily the steering wheel black ribbon cable was already prewired and ready for extra wires. The ribbon cable im talking about sits behind the steering wheel and carries airbag and horn signals in our golf. Im not sure it has spare wires for steering wheel audio cables. Once through the ribbon cable adapter the 3 wires ran directly to the radio so I just had to extend them to the radio unit.
Unless there is a can system involved id assume golf would be similar to my 05 prado.

I believe there is a can system involved and you need to change the slip ring - the bit that connects the electronics behind the wheel through the steering column. Also possibly the can control module thingy that lives under the dash.

Also I have read the in a VW the signal all goes through a single wire and is decoded - can system, as opposed to something like the prado above where separate signals (like volume or channel) each have their own wire and a simple patch loom would suffice...
