    steam comming from the coolant bottle on a 1.6 golf.... what causes this?

    Steam comming from the coolant bottle on a 1.6 golf.... what causes this?

    There was also a hi- pitch sound before this happened. Temp guage OK at 90

    Any clues??

    It could be due to the high temperatures

    perhaps the cap is venting from the high temperature. how much steam is coming out? did the underneath of the bonnet get sprayed with coolant?

    Are your radiator fans working, this is a common fault on the mk4s and could possibly be making your coolent over-heat
