    Any pics from the sides?

Are there locking tabs,or release keys that free it?

down each side of the headunit should be a clip. need to slid something long and flat and skinny down there to make the tabs move away and outwards from the unit, then the headunit should slide forward. imagine something like a cable tie but metal and a little thinner is what i used

Cheers guys, i did that, and now the original units are out, but still haven't put the new unit in yet. I need the ALPINE to VW wiring harness. Any ideas where i might pick one up?

Sometimes aftermarket head units come with the metal things to pull it out. The ones I had fit the OEM head unit.

I think the slots are right next to the load and eject buttons, and the same positions below.

By the looks of this particular one, it was not meant to 'slide out' of it's metal sleeve, I don't think this model had one. By the looks of it it would have been bolted in at the sides, but we definitely need to see the sides to make a proper diagnosis! Pics, pics & more pics!

Just installed a Alpine 117, there should be a wire loom with ISO connectors on them. Its further down the loom from the stock radio.

You might be able to get places like AutoBarn/Repco/SuperCheap to order thoes ISO -> Alpine Aerpro harnesses, otherwise, you can pickup the universal ISO harness for about $15, then solder the ends to the included Alpine harness.

One thing i noticed with the Aerpro ISO harness was that the Constant 12V and Switched Power were reversed based on the colours, something to take note of.

i have a JVC DVD headunit in my R32 and all i needed was the antenna adapter and a VW harness. you plug this harness into the one that you pulled out of the factory stereo and solder the wires to the new stereo. BTW you didnt need to butcher the dash like that, once you slide something into the tabs they both come out real easy. when you put it back make sure it sits in properly otherwise you'll get squeaks and rattles
