My VR6 goes fairly hard (intake, exhaust, chip, koni/eibach) and I would want the Bora to go harder and handle better. I haven't actually driven one yet (test driving a couple this weekend) and don;'t know how they compare to the VR6 stock for stock. Any opinions???

What kind of gains could I expect from exhaust (prolly just cat-back, maybe Milltek), CAI, and cams (Techtonic) with dedicated chip? I would also fit some kind of suspension, maybe KW V2s or Bilstein PSS.

How much do you think I would expect to pay for the above? (Ive found prices of US$700 for the cams, US$700 for the exhaust, US$400 for a Giac cam chip, US$1400 for KW V2, US$1000 for Bilstein PSS, US$970 for Koni coilovers, but have no idea what postage would cost for any of this).

Depending on the price I get the car for, I would look at budgeting around $3-5k for mods.

Almost forgot, I would be pretty keen on getting the Haldex modification to turn it into more of a rear driver/oversteerer, I think there was a recent group buy with a price around AUD$1000.

hey MRJZ, nice motor.. love the lower job and wheels...

Sukebe, I have had my v6 4mo for about 6 mths now, and I love it to death, absolulely awesome round the twisties and on the street. Heaps of low end torque and the awd provides fantastic grip.

I am starting to get itchy for mods, so I would be interested in your mods as they go, keep us posted.

    hi mate,
ive had my v6 bora for around 8months prior to that was a golf3. My best mate has a VR6 for a while and i used to drive that around a lot. Dont expect to notice a huge load of different when you jump in the bora, except the much imporved interior and maybe suspension being a bit sportier. Also the 6 speed gearbox feels sturdier and the shifts are somewhat shorter compared to the vr6.

All round though they are great cars however after a while you will no doubt be wanting to squeeze some extra horses which isnt cheap. I dont know if the exhaust and cai have enough bang for bucks but a few boys on here have done it so im sure they can shed some more light.

In terms of supercharge due to the cars being right hand drive a lot of the steering bits and pieces run down the same side of the engine where the supercharger is to sit and this causes a lot of complications. If anyone knows of people that have worked around this (without breaking the bank) i am intersted to know.

Personally i have just dropped mine onto some bilstein coilovers and put in a k&n filter element, untill i find out more about possible super/turbo chargers i will keep saving my money and one day my dream might come true.

Good luck with your purchase and make sure you shop around, dont just go for the first thing that comes up. I almost bought a 2003 with 80,000 for $26k but the lady sold it on me last minute. i was shattered but a week later i found a 2002 with 86,000 for 17k with about $750 needed to bring it up to scratch at vw. Just shows that good things come to those who wait

Thanks for the considered response dre211. After having driven a few Boras now, Im starting to think I may prefer my Golf The fact my Golf has Koni/Eibach, Whiteline RSB, K&N, chip, custom exhaust with Remus backbox may have something to do with it.... The Golf feels more solid, goes harder, handles much better, and sounds WAAAY more agressive, almost violent, than any of the Boras I've driven. Ive also found the Bora to have very light steering with no "feel" or feedback. My VR6 really lets you where it is through the steering. Looks like Im talking myself out of the change....

Anyone out there got a Bora with suspension, intake, exhaust and chip mods? Particularly in Melb so I might go for a drive to see what it achieved with that level of modification.

I bought my Bora because it was the best of both worlds, a daily driver and slightly sporty plus I can tow with it on the weekends also a long distance cruiser.

If I had wanted an all out sports car I would have gotten an R32 GTR or Mitsu EVO or something similar.

You really need to make a break between the head and the heart.

I hear you qsilverzr. Ive owned an R32 GTR, they are too old now. Ive also owned an EVO6.5. I have looked at EVO7s but they are too plasticy, are not popular with the wife, and are still going for high 20s. There are many examples of Bora 4motions around $20k.

I reckon with a Milltek exhaust, a koni/H&R suspension setup with RSB (maybe Nuespeed), and a K&N intake, and maybe an ECU flash, I will be happy with the Bora. I saw another one last night that was very tight and has ben babied all its life and it handled much better than others Ive driven.

Very happy with my Bora. More than happy to take you for drive if you ever come to Perth.

hey Daniel, too bad you are in Perth as your car is modded just about exactly as I would want. How much an effect have each of your mods had? Was the Superchip worth it? How much was it? Sorry, lots of questions, I might PM you to discuss
