    Slim Subs work a treat...

Installed some Slimline (Low Profile) Subs and an amp into the rear parce shelf - mounted them onto 5 ply plywood first - still have 2 of the Baby Seat connectors - they work brilliantly - nice and stiff still and excellent sound even without a box. They are Pioneer and were $150 each on ebay... I find myself taking the long way home sometimes now, listening to my tunes... took some pics to show, but I can't post attachments - it says in Posting Permissions - "You may not post attachments" Maybe 'cause i'm a newbie...

Definitely in for some pics, Subs without a box was a no-no i thought?? Im no audio expert though.

You have to first upload pictures onto a photo sharing site like Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket then use the <IMG> link to post them here.

    Are these air subs.
It's important that you cover any holes and isolate the boot and cabin from each other as best as you possibly can.

Hey, thanks for the photobucket info - does this work?

    Pictures by scottysadler - Photobucket

The subs info says they can be mounted without a box - I think it is called air subs - I think the Red Perforated steel you can see in the pics behind the speakers must make it work. They seriously kick and don't take up much space as you can see. The model number is in the pics... Scott

It's called free air, or infinite baffle, for best results the front of the woofer needs to be completely sealed from the rear of the sub, will still work fine, just not 100%

Ps- the red mesh is to make it look pretty

Ps, just so you know, cutting the parcel shelf in any way shape or form is quite illegal, as the parcel shelf is considered a structural part of the car it can't be modified, that said in the 6 years Iv been in the industry Iv only heard of 1 person being picked up for it, had to have a new parcel shelf welded in, engineered and vehicle inspected... So it think his 6x9 install ended up costing somewhere near 5k :/

Illegal? I had no idea... I never gave it a thought...

Seriously? Illegal? I have put bigger speakers into several cars and they have passed a roadworthy in QLD without a problem...

Because no one in QLD actually checks things like that. The roadworthy sheet has a bunch of boxes to tick, if it is not on the sheet it is not checked.
