    I am not so sure...

Actually, now I remember having been sent to Transport Queensland and a full car inspection (in another car)- over the pits and all that jazz... my staggered rear rims were too wide, my ball joints needed doing and my after market steering wheel no good, but nothing was mentioned about my speakers mounted into my parcel shelf. Also, don't autobahn and Strathfield etc. fit speakers into parcel shelves?

its the shelfs in the boras not golfs. Golfs have just a partical wood shelf that lifts up with the rear hatch.
Boras have the similar... But ours is fixed to a metal frame that runs over the boot, being the metal part is structural (think about the baby seat connectors...) cutting holes in it would be a nono in the eyes of the law id imagine, unless you had the car engineered, but who would do that just for speakers.
My mate did the same in his vs, but from memory it had round cutouts in the metal that suited a 6' speaker or so, when he installed bigger he had to lift them a little.

Just cos autobahn etc do it doesnt mean its legal anyway. 90% that work there wouldnt know how to install speakers let alone issues with cutting the body etc.

Id imagine you would be fine. The chance of being picked up for it would be tiny.

My audio setup is lacking and this would be good to look at in the future, thanks!

As for getting caught for it I doubt it but would be a PITA to fix.
