i say you will still own it in 2 years you have talked about selling for ages,,,
but keep it, new std cars are gay, you will need to get somthing like new s3 to be a way better car..... my 2c
Well its been sometime now ive been already looking at a few other cars (R32, E46 M3, S3 and MK6 GTI).
So now the question is, sell my mk4 for x amount of $ and upgrade or keep the mk4 and get another.
If sold to the right person and reasonable amount of money (not stupid) i'd be happy to let it go, however i dont particulary want my car going to some tool (lol).
Id be hoping for the early 20s if i sold it. Im pretty sure id get it regardless of what they are going for as a decent gti 2002 is atill the 15-18k mark stock, and versus modified theres the understanding ppl dont want it but at same time it all depends..
Tough choices! Maybe hold onto for another few months and see how i go or turn into track car!
What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

White 95 vr6, colour coad, koni, neuspeed, 16 x 9, samco!
after all that effort and $$$ I woluld keep it!
That thing looks dope i saw it awhile back cruising past the fish markets...
I say go sideways and get a MK4 .:R32 and either whack some cams or a c2 turbo kit. haha.
I was contemplating on a later model S3, but after driving my mates one with APR chip, and exhaust (180kwatw), can really decide if it's worth the jump from my .:R.
At the end of the day, its all depends on your own preference and budget.
I have yet test driven a Mk6 GTI, they look amazing and from the reviews and bill boards, I would like to see what the buzz its about behind the wheel.
If you intend to modify it, a turbo will have better results and pocket wise will be most probably cheaper than the N/A route. As you already know.
Just my 0.2cents worth.
I'm sure what ever you decide on will be a beauty on the road.
Cheers,
Tommy

As above, anything less than a new S3 would be a downgrade.
Think of where you want the mk4 to improve, and either keep working on that, or make sure the new car has that covered (eg fwd + traction)
A 335i would be cool too.
I've been looking at basically the same cars as my next upgrade (a long way off yet).
I'd also look at a 135i, 335i, and the new R20.
If you're bored, sell it.
2000 Mk IV GTI
It will be a sad say when you sell this car thats for sure! But if you have to in order to chase your next project then so be it.
I dont think turning it into a track car is really a great idea. There are better platforms for the track that will be more fun.
In a perfect world you would be able to hang onto the GTI and then move onwards and upwards with a new project. Obviously thats not always practical though. Its just nice to walk out to the driveway and think "hmmm which car will i take today?" as they all have their own character.
have to say i have a BIG hole in my guts after selling my R....But knowin its gone to a good home and its over 500km away
You have a unique car mate, i think you should keep it. Get something cheap (2-3k) and drive that for a while. When you get back in your car it will feel 100 times better and you'll fall in love all over again I drive my GFs Yaris around and when get in my R it seems so so so much better Yaris beats it on fuel ($40 full tank lasts 2 weeks) and other wear and tear prices (tyres ~$50 each, spark plugs ~$5, takes 3.5L of oil, oil filter was ~$7-8 etc). But the R is still the R. Im not sure which car i'd replace it with. E36 and E46 M3s are very nice cars but you need to rev them hard to get the power going. New S3 is nice too but i love the responsiveness of NA engines. R20 is basically an S3, Sirocco is basically a GTI (i love how it looks tho), i can't fit in a Boxter, Carreras are too expensive etc etc
I guess a replacement would have to be something totally different, a mad 4WD or something similar.
So keep it and enoy it. My 2c
BTW if you decide to seel it send your wheels my way

Id say keep, its very individual and im sure you have spent plenty of coin on it, unless you can see it having a problem in the near future or another car really pushes your buttons, keep it
