    Question Short Throw Kit

A little while back I installed a Neuspeed short shifter kit which reduces the throw length between gears by approximately 40%. It was a bit notchy at first but it has settled done fine now (or I am now used to it) but it certainly makes for quick gear changes. Now a question I have is for those that have put in a short thow kit (HPA or whatever) is has anyone else found that the gear stick now seems out of proportion (i.e. too long) now that the throw is shorter? Maybe it is just me but I look at it now and can't help but think I should take an inch or two off the end of the rod. Looking at the manual I can't see how I could do this without wrecking it so I have left it. Has anyone else tried this or thought about it? Curious to know.

hey, I dont mind mine. As you say it is rather notchy at first as a short shift kit tends to exemplify any problems or facets of the box 10 fold. I had mine on 40 % and went to 20 % as I found 40 to short for my liking.

I think aftermarket would be the way to go as far as stick is concerned, there was a BMC one for sale on here a little while ago.

The gear stick is not out of proportion. Have you watched the production cars such as the V8 racing? Are they as short in size as the average manhood ? If you want to waste your hard earned cash, cut it......

once its hacked you cant go back, chop it in small increments untill you get it exact.

short throw/short shift has never been on my mk4 to do list after blowing $300+ on a neuspeed short shift on the mk3.

    Short Shift Kit

Thanks again for the advice guys - on reflection I'm glad I diddn't cut it and left it alone. On a similar topic is it worth changing the gear oil (Redline MTL) or simply playing around with the shifter linkage adjustment to improve the first gear 'notchyness' (is that a word??) - it was always this way even with the stock shifter.

Diesel Geek shifter in my VR6 has been excellent for more than 2yrs now. Some early adjustment issues but highly recommended

Spot on there mate. I've had mine for about 5 months or so and difference in shift is amazing. Where it used to be almost a two stage throw now it's just a single flick and she's in. It was the one thing that used to really bug me with the car and now that it's been fixed...
