Sell mk5 tdi and get a mk4 gti?

hey everyone just grabbing opinions,
i have a mk5 tdi with 220km, timing belt is due verrry soon, she has side skirts, front lip, 18's, lowered, and a sony 7" dvd player fitted.
considering selling to buy a low km mk4 gti. would be able t transfer the sony dvd and wheels over,

anyone got opinions, am i crazy in going backwards? or am i really going forwards. Ill have the same amount of power but potential for ecu tunes, exhaust both of which would be essential.

there is usually room for a double din headunit in the mk4s, just depends on the shape as the mk5s are built into the dash a little more then the mk4s which look like a stand alone unit.
Wheels yes with adapters. but no they will not bolt up directly. mk5 is 5x112, mk4 is 5x100 PCD

depends. can pick mk4s up pretty cheap these days. but why not upgrade to a mk6 or something

the dvd is a standard double din size, should squeeze in with a dash kit.

as for mk6? I'm only a first yr uni student, so budget is about 11k maximum

yeah should be no worries, ull lose the storage shelf, but thats no biggy, i live without mine.
what are the specs of the wheels? just want to make sure they will fit with adapters, offset and width?

ahhh fair enough, just assumed with a mk5 you had money haha
why do u want to move away from the mk5? just getting too old with the km?

they are 18 x 8 with 225 tyres on them, they don't poke on the mk5, a little bit of poke wouldn't hurt as id end up with coils for the mk4.

nah the mk5 only set me back 13k, which i own now. with the mms I'm scared of upcoming repair bills, turbo as its running high boost via revo tune, clutch is getting pretty loose, its idling high and cannot be resolved, and yeah she is just getting tired all over.

whereas i think a low km 100- 150 mk4 would be nice and fresh, and parts tend to be cheaper.

well you wont be wanting to run poke with a 225 on 8 thats for sure.
are these wheels worth bring over is the question you gotta ask.
should be able to get a low 100thou gti for that sort of price id imagine. problem with buying another second hand car i guess is the unknown of whats wrong with it already.

I'm thinking of leaving the wheels on the car, and going something scene like a 16x9 or something.
yeah thats true, as long as it has service history shouldn't be too much to worry about.
id be less worried about a gti with 100 than a tdi with 220

just bear in mind--going from a TDI to a GTI = $$$ when you fill up at the servo. Running costs etc; plus the mk4s are starting to show their age (don't have the nice new MFDs etc / leaving home lights, parking sensors etc)... i would save up long term and think mk5 gti

mk 4 gti is a good car but you will have to find the right one thats been well maintained, but then again who knows what may need to be done to new car??
should be prepared to spend a small amount an general wear and tear items. Hopefully clutch is good and turbo is good these are the items which cost the most if they should fail... Dont think your going backwards if you buy a mk 4 2004 they still will look good for at for least another 5 years and hold decent value.
