Ryco oil filter on GTI

Hi all,
just did my first oil change on the Golf last week.Used Nulon 5w40 full synth (all they had at autobarn in 5w40) AND a Ryco oil filter.Been reading up saying the Ryco,s may not be up to the oil pressures of the vw,s.Car recently Revo,d and obviously want to look after my ride.
Any horror stories with the Ryco,s or will it do until next oil change and change brands then.

Hey to add,checked my air filter as well and it was very clogged up with crap.Ordered a generic cheapy at autobarn as well.Looked at K&N but worried about oil and MAF.Are the cheapy air filters up to the task and if not where do I get a decent one?.

I wouldn't trust it. I don't believe they flow as well, therefore they raise the oil pressure on the supply side.

Check the pressure releif inside the ryco oil filter and compare it to the factory one . The Ryco oil filter really only suits the t4 2l transporter .

Note to self. Order OEM/K&N Filter.

If anyone wants any KN gear let me know. I can get it at cost price.. K&N Panel Filter was 85 for my GTI from memory. Will go with their oil next time too.

How much extra for the genuine oil filter which would give you piece of mind????? I'd always stick with the genuine you can tell the
difference in build quality compared to generic brands....

Pressure release? It's a one-way valve... to stop the oil flowing back to the sump when you shut the motor off...

You'll be surprised that those filters in Repco, Supercheap are even more expensive than OEM filters, I don't get it why people keep using Ryco.

Maybe they like to buy Australian product? In which they'll be disappointed because Ryco is as Australian company as is your VW dealer. Ryco filters are made in China now and yes they have the recalls on their products, the one I remember was last year for 1 or 2 their filters used on Toyota's and some others - ironically it was only for the p/n that were not made in China, Chinese made filters were OK.

However should the Ryco filter leak internally you don't have to see any differences between the genuine filter and Ryco filter, only your engine will have somehow shortened life and, you will be wondering why?
Don’t fix what is not broken and working well! Genuine VW oil and AIR filter (even flows better) are inexpensive, cheaper than many aftermarket brands, so stick with them, it could be the many saving decision.

There are many threads about using RYCO filters, so I'm closing this one and encourage everyone to use the search function it the top left corner before posting question or something they think may be important.

It depends where your buying. For example the VR6 the filters are ~$25 from those places and about $55 from dealer spare parts or at least they were a few years back when I first got my VR6. I paid the premium and got one from a dealer the first time round since I wanted it then and there. Since then I have wised up and pay much less than the Repco's for genuine items
