It might do especially if it has jumped a tooth!!
I'd be right on that Steve.

Hey thanks for the offer Gavin but i should be able to borrow one locally (used to have a Lm1 a few years back n sold it )
On another note my timing belt tensioner failed the other day and im just wondering if this might make the car run odd due to the belt not being as tight as it should be ?

I'm fairly sure that it hasn't jumped as the car was still idling and driving fine .
I had just come back from a local VW cruise and it was only when i slowed that i noticed a rattle , tracked it down to the tensioner as once i removed a few things you could see the pully the tensioner pushes vibrating aggressively at low rpm but smoothing out with a few revs. Disassembled that end of the motor and found the tensioner was leaking and the pin could be pushed back with mild finger pressure . Just going to replace all the timming gear n see how i go .......
Well car has started to give me a fault code . . . . . Still drives the same, idle and power fine with a random miss @ cruise but now with 16486 .P0102 Mass Air Flow circuit - G70 :Low input
So now what im thinking is that the Maf was the cause and it is getting worse to a point where the ecu is noticing it ?
Any recomendations on what maf to get ? as i herd talk of the US market having a differnt plug and a Hitachi brand item that is less likly to fail..... I am using a 3" housing and audi TT airbox lid if that matters ?
I'm interested as to how the new software was designed to work with your new MAF / Injectors. Was the code an existing option with designated MAF / Injectors? If you are getting detonation, I'd be thinking about pulling a little timing to prevent damage to the engine.
I've been playing with advancing the timing on my car as its running smooth but not hard, its pretty easy to pull a little timing using CustomSettings, Lemmiwinks, etc.
I don't think you can just go using different MAF's as you see fit, each MAF will surely work in a slightly different way and thus screw with the A/F's.
Gav, how does all this work (assuming you're going to read this and care to comment)
Some background on the tune............. Its supplied by GIAC for a 1.8t with Ko4-01 , 3" Maf , 380cc injectors ,TIP and upgraded intercooler. The car had a GIAC socket fitted when i purchased it and when i was looking at removing it I found out that they would remove it and "flash" a tune on the car for a very small fee. Now i was sold on custom code as the customer service was awesome but in my current position couldn't afford the luxury
So now ive got an issue that may well be software related but have no idea as Giac suck balls at customer service.
Good lesson in this I guess ........... had i waited until i could afford the software i wanted rather than what i could afford I dont think id have the issue at this point.
Happens to the best of us, its called a learning curve...
Ok, so the parts form elements of a 'Stage' of tune, sounds good. Your issues could relate to a faulty part, unfortunately without Vag-com, it can be a guessing game working out what is wrong...
I'm sure there are plenty of these tuned setups on Tex, have you looked around there?
A cheap ebay cable gets you access to vag-com and adaptation programming (very limited). Given your issues, I'd invest in one of these, atleast so you can determine your issues further or maybe get a work-around.
Steve, you need the element from a MK4. Get the part number off the original MAF housing. They have 4 pins in the plug. Have a word with Jmac or Golfloon.
Remind me again what the part number is on your ECU? We have swapped an AQ for a CH recently with no ill effects. Might be an easy way around your software......
Ben, the ECU in the MK4 is ME3.8 and not half as clever as the ME7 in the newer MK4s outside Australia and of course your Polo. There is limited logging capability with VAG-COM and for the most part you really need to log it with an external device and wideband lambda probe.
Cheers
