    Reversing issue - V6 4mo

    Hi,

After my V5 Bora was written off I picked up a white V6 4mo.

Occasionally when reversing the car when it is cold, it seems to 'load up' the rear diff. Resistance builds up and I'm concerned that if I go too far something might break! Sometimes when I move forward again the rear wheel does a sort of catch up spin.
It doesn't do it all the time and it hasn't done it when the car is warmed up.

I hope my description is adequate. Does anyone have any ideas how I rectify it?

    Cheers

    David

Try doing an oil and filter change in the Haldex coupling first. Once you've done it, take it out to somewhere open and quiet, and perform figure eights under acceleration for 5 minutes or so.

Also change the oil in the differential. They are two separate parts.

The Haldex filter is an expensive part and you need a special tool to remove it...ive just priced one up from my pal at vw as i plan to do mine soon its $85 for filter and $65 for the tool from germany..plus the oil... im going to use castrol syntrans heavy duty full synthetic 75w90 longlife ....i do plan on sourcing one a bit cheaper than that as i think its a bit expensive just for a filter..

Make sure you use the proper Haldex oil in the coupling. Don't put gear oil in that.

Tooley Imports in Sydney sometimes stock it, and can ship to you, but it'll be the same oil and price as VW.

It's really not that dear in the scheme of things.

You only use one tube as I recall and it isn't that expensive.
