    Removal of gear knob?

On my golf how do I remove the gear knob to get the leather gear boot off?

You have to pop the leather boot out of the console near the chrome trim , then you will see a clip that is is on the bottom of the gear knob that needs to be removed first before you can remove the gear knob! hope that helps

There's a good how to here:

How To: mk4/5 golf gear knob removal - uk-mkivs

It's actually on a MkV, but the procedure is almost identical to the Mk4.

I just changed mine last week. That above guide was very helpful. I would advise have gloves on, the ring fasteners were a pain to remove. Gashed my finger while trying to remove it. It wasnt difficult but some parts was a real pain.
