    Rear passenger door wont open

    Hey guys,

Couldn't find a thread relating to this problem,

My rear left passenger door wont open on my 04 GTI, central locking works fine on all other doors. It is in the lock position and wont budge at all. Dealer said it needs new lock and part is around $350 plus labour!!

Any one else have this problem?

Cheers and sorry if already posted.

So you can't open it from the outside either.

What do the inside and outside handles feel like? Do they pull freely or is there any resistance

See if you can get the door card off without breaking any clips or the panel.
First check the steel rod that goes from the door handle to the lock mechanism, they do break.
lock pin could be faulty if the handle pulls freely.

Try this How do you fix a rear passenger door handle on a MK4 VW Golf with child lock enabled so the door cannot be opened from the inside The handle pulls and clicks but nothing happens

The locks on these cars are haunted !
Way too expensive to fix and a pain in the ass to put up with.
Normally the front locks go first.

    Good luck, keep us posted.

You can always enter the car 'Dukes of Hazard' style.

So I got the door card almost off, leaving the two bottom clips still in place and could reach inside and check the steel rod that goes from the door handle to the lock mechanism and its ok, the door handle works fine on the inside, but the outside handle pulls but does nothing. Not sure if its the actual handle on the outside that's faulty, but then again the central locking mechanism on the door could also be shot, ended up putting it all back together as I need to lock the car, as opposed to opening it and not being able to lock it...will give it another once over before taking it in I suppose, or giving 'Dukes of Hazard' a go...lol

    Thanks guys for the responses.
