RE: Exhaust / Quick Question

Hi Guys,

As the title suggests I have a quick question in regards to the Exhaust / Cat / Dump Pipe of MK4 GTI's 1.8L Turbo.

- Is the standard dump pipe off the turbo (where the four bolts are) Mild Steel / Stainless Steel or Cast?

- When people upgrade the exhaust system, do you also change the factory Cat? (I have been told that these Cats are Euro 4 and can not be replaced by just a standard performance high flow cat.) or do you not use a Cat altogether? (Is there legal issues with that???)

Any help would be great!

The dump pipes are cast and you must run a CAT of some sort. Cops are catching on to gutted cats these days with infra red heat guns. They will get a reading from the inlet and outlet of the cat and if theres no difference in temp, you get reamed.

JC! Thats a bit steep! That'd get me a K04 upgrade and all the bits and bobs plus more and I'd probably be putting out more emmisions anyway

I am also looking to do a 2.5" dump pipe. However at this stage I am looking to get it custom made!

What they cant find, they cant shaft you for. You just have to be smart about what you do.
