The problem is though on most roads in the hands of most drivers the MkV is the faster car. The Nurburgring time by Autosport is the only test I've seen in which it is faster (and by a significant margin). The same test around Hockenheim short circuit, the MkV was only marginally faster. All other tests have the MkV as the faster car.
Whilst a softer setup and an easier car to live with, don't forget the MkV has a much stiffer base chassis than the MkIV.

Note who has done a fair majority of those lap times. Sport Auto. I read an article in a wheels or motor magazine a few months back about the bloke who does the laps there. He does over 500 laps a year! I think it is a safe assumption to make that Sport Autos opinion of a car and their lap times are to be highly regarded.
