    R32 Shift Light Install

Recently I decided to install a shift light into my car to help with shifting at the correct point during rallies, so today Graeme was kind enough to stop round and do the install for me with me assisting him. We will be putting together a post detailing the install in this thread but for now here are a couple of videos & pictures to wet your appetite.

The shift light is made by Ecliptech in Melbourne and is fully programmable with various parameters available to be set, it also has a built in battery monitor and 12 different shift light patterns to choose from.

We have set the first light to come on at 3000 RPM and the shift warning to activate at 6800 RPM. The unit is also able to be turned off at the press of a button and automatically dims at night.

    Shift Light Startup Sequence

    Shift Light Running Sequence

As mentioned we will post details of the install at a later time as we have been going since lunchtime. Sorry for the quality of the second video Graeme was having a hard time holding the camera steady as I accelerated. I can't thank Graeme enough for the time and effort he has put into this for me, the install is as close to factory as you could get so thanks a bunch mate.

    Cheers Al

Looks the duck's nuts Al. Graeme's all things R32 wizardry strikes again hey?
By the way I don't think you're pictures are quite big enough. I only had to scroll across twice to view them.
Oh and you're service is due in 2900kms.
    Cheers,
    Trent
Edit: You resized 'em to quick for me.

Does it have a chime or anything like that that beeps at you as well or is it just the light?
Also does it hook directly into the cluster or do you splice it into the harness?
    Cheers,
    Trent

No it doesn't have a chime, if you miss the flashing lights you shouldn't be driving as you're obviously blind.

It is spliced into the harness at the climate control as each of the power, ground and rpm signal are present in the loom that plugs into the climate control. Of course it was Graeme who figured all of this out for me and did the work to factory specifications. I kid you not if I pulled it apart and showed you, you would think it was done at the factory in Bratislava his work is that good.

I always wanted one of these for my ciblet which, I only just recently sold. So worth it and if you look at what else is out there most of it is a rip and doesnt do half the stuff Shift-I does But yeah, when you do a write up, I would be interested in putting one in the Bora and race car...

Just in the process of putting the document together now, will be done in the next day or so hopefully.

We'll post it as a PDF with images highlighting the major points, remembering that the wiring we used applies to the MKIV R32 and we are unable to say if it is the same wires that will apply in any other models.

Okay here is a link to a preliminary Install PDF file. I haven't had the chance to get Graeme to check over this yet so it may change slightly if he wants any more detail added but it should be enough to get you started.

Install Guide for Ecliptech Shift Light for Volkswagen MK IV R32

EDIT: If anyone is curious the reason we decided to use the connections from the Climatronic is two fold, firstly everything we needed was there in a nice neat easy to access location and secondly with the roll cage in the car we would have been unable to easily remove the panel under the steering column to access the back of the fuse panel and cluster wires.

    Cheers Al
