Lets open it up and see who has what and what they think to the headunit they are running.

I know I have been thinking of swopping out mine, just not sure which direction I want to head in yet. OEM would be good with upgrade clocks so have all the good gen right in front of you..

    So who's got what ?

Me. just standard as a rock for now.

a Mate just bought the Sony XPlod double din HU + Nav deal from JB hifi for 1100.. he's also picked up a bunch of brand name speakers and getting it fitted in a Non-VW next week.. but I'll update with the unit review as soon as I have a play with it.

It seems a shame to me to have all the real estate of a double DIN facia and then a tiny screen, especially if you want a great ipod control experience, you need a 6 or 7" touch screen. The xplod styling is a bit out there for me, does not exactly blend in!

For the record I am running an Alpine IXA-407EBT, nice big 7" touch screen, ipod control (including artwork display), bluetooth and reversing camera. Does exactly what I need it to and does it well.

Ah! I was thinking of this : WX-GT78UI : Xplod

That one with the 6.1" screen looks good! I see on the Sony site they do a 7" as well.

Sorry about questions mate, curiosity !!

No does not have RDS, well I don't think so, the radio stations here in Syd don't transmit RDS signals anyway, at least limited ones if they do. Yes I did install it myself, pretty straightforward but then I have been installing car stereos in my own cars since I was 18!

The camera is mounted under the rear bumper, it is a small wide angle one in a metal case, really good quality, from and AU ebay seller. The wiring goes up through an existing grommet in the boot floor.

Yeah, seen that not all stations have RDS. Still it is pritty good on the ones that do. Suppose would have to get a euro/uk spec one! Wonder what kinda price could pick one of those up for with the mighty Aussie dollar ! Google will be my friend.............

Yeah not phased by the install.

    Thanks for input mate.
