    R32 headlight bulb replacement

    Hi guys,

Anyone replaced the bulbs in mk4 R32? I had a look at doing it on the weekend and looked like I would have to remove half the enginer bay... Windscreen wiper bottle and battery for starters

Anyone have a DIY guide on it?

If it's your parking bulb have a look in my thread. I wrote about it in there. I'm pretty sure I've posted elsewhere as well. You just have to squeeze your hands.
You need a BAX9S offset bayonet bulb.

If you're doing your high beams you need to pull the headlight out. There's the two torx screws at the top and you'll have to pull off your front bumper to get to the other two. I've also written about that.

    Cheers,
    Trent

Thanks Treza... I knew I had seen something about it somewhere

No way I can get my hands in there... I can't even get the xenon transformer out... Think I might look at removing the bumper... My dad and I already contemplated that already! How hard is it to get off?

its relatively easy actually. I usually do it myself, so its a bit tricky putting it back on, but no biggy. the grill just unclips and there are 7 torx screws along the bumper (two sneaky ones behind the lower grills) and another 4 along the guard lining on each side, and a temperature sensor behind the passenger side grill. there is a video on youtube...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfoVOpRsNvo

There's more than that on the the R32.

There's approximately 7 torx screws under each wheel arch depending on how many got installed at the dealer.

There's three bigger torx screws beneath the center VW grill (be careful when you pull this out not to break the clips). Lift upwards on the grill to get it out and flat blade screwdriver on the center clip above the VW emblem. You don't need to pull the grill off completely (ie. removing the bonnet tab). Just lift it up to get to the screws and to remove the bumper.

There are two nuts on the left and right side bottom honeycomb grills. These grills just pop out pretty easily.

Ambient temperature sensor on the passenger side behind the bottom honeycomb grill. Make sure you don't forget this one.

3 or 4 torx screws on the bottom splash guard up near the sump etc. You don't need to remove the ones all along the bottom of the bar with the splash guard as by removing these other ones the splash guard will come off with the bar.

Pull the bar straight towards you horizontally and it will just slide straight out. It slides straight back in as well but having two people to line it up always helps.

Once you get the headlight out you'll see how that the Xenon ballast just unclips and you can move it to get to the parkers which just pull out. That is unless you have really big hands.

That said once you've pulled the bumper off and worked out how to do it, it's easy as.

    Cheers,
    Trent

My parkers blew after a few months of owning the car and i never bothered to replace them. They were an ugly yellowish colour and when you get the xenons going it looks wrong to me. I prefer having 2 bright lights on the front
