oh well, the original box is back in with a crappy OEM paper filter (looks like paper to me ) and the car doesn't sound that good anymore. It's not as responsive as before. the lights are off, the MAF has been replaced, but the car is not as much fun anymore. The CAI from Neuspeed is on it's way, i've been told it should arrive by the end of the week. It's been a month since i paid for it!!

Ian from rennenhouse asked me if i could take some photos while installing so i'll post them here as well

I put my CAI in yesterday and have had no problems with EPC or TC lights since! The car is running a lot better too. So i think i can conclude it was the oil on the filter messing with the sensors brains!

Good luck with the install anyway. You'll love the difference it makes!

Yes cleaning does work, but I would strongly advise you use a specialised MAF cleaner spray, or in a pinch, electronic component cleaner spray.

Don't touch the element with any implement.

Just out of interest, who advised you to go for that setup? It's horrendous: sucks in hot air, poor filtration, oiled filter will kill MAF. If someone advised you to go with that setup, I strongly suggest you never listen to them again.

The stock VW airbox with a larger intake tube (use the fireproof stuff) run down to where it can get cold air will perform just as well as any cold air intake, but without the risk of ruining the MAF with oil.

The stock airbox and filter provide the best combination of airflow and filtration, the setup is just restricted a little by the small diameter stock snorkel. Fix that, and you've got the perfect setup/

noone really. I had that filter on my Liberty B4 so i decided to give it a go on the golf. It wasn't complaining for a couple of months.

I got the CAI in now, and i like it. sounds good, looks even better and the car runs smoothly. PERFECT!

Excellent, oiled CAI isn't my first choice, but then again it's not my car either! Just make sure you don't oil it and you should at least get more than a couple of months out of the new MAF.
