R32 with EPC & TC lights on

    Hello everyone,

Im after a bit of advice. On monday, while driving, my EPC and TC lights went on. The car goes better than ever before. I got home, disconnected the battery, waited 10 min and reconnected it again. Lights are off until i touch the accelerator pedal.
I checked vwvortex, these forums and they are suggesting a brake light switch, wich works fine as well as the cruise control. I decided to get it scanned, as my version of VAG-COM doesn't want to work. (it worked once and never again).
I took the car to Quattro Motors (in Perth) and they scanned it and gave me a call. The airflow sensor needs to be replaced.
The car has a pod filter installed, which has been on the car for 3-4 months and it never complained. Im wondering if this is what caused the sensor to pack up.
Has anyone had something like this happen to them before?

Yeah it happens abit on the 1.8Ts

Pod that is oiled will kill it, the oil destroys the sensor.

****load cheaper to order the part from overseas if you can bare not being with your baby for a little while.

Might be able to get away with just cleaning the MAF with some carbi cleaner.

I'm not too sure about carby cleaner (cause I don't know what it contains) but you could always try rubbing alchohol. It dries very quick and is good at dispursing grease and crap. If it's stuffed, it's worth a try!

Dont touch it with anything mate!!!!!!! seriously. If the light is on and it runs like crap do this. Disconnect it and try it. If it its better replace it mate cleaning doesnt work its a hot wire sensor man very sensitive.

im not sure what to do yet. i'll try to get it replaced under warranty, but if i can't then i'll clean it. I have to replace it anyway. I tried disconnecting the battey but that didn't help. Its fine till you touch the gas. With the lights on, the car goes beter than ever before

happend to me in the mk4 2.0L and it was due to the BMC Pod i had fitted... I tried cleaning it with an alcohol based spray called CO contact but it didnt work for too long. ended up having to buy a new one along with 2 new o2 sensors.

Just an update, Quattro motors in Perth (Vic park) replaced my MAF and said that it was probably caused by the oil from the pod, apperently too close to the sensor. Anyway, the standard airbox is back in, the car is not so responsive as it used to be, but the CAI is on the way!! Should be fun!
