Meh, I followed the instructions. Its very straight forward, only requires undoing a few bolts, sliding out the old system, and sliding in the new one. Theres nothing too technical about putting one pipe inside another, then tightening a clamp! The problem is that the adapter sleeve btween the centre pipe and the stock cat-pipe is slightly too small on one end (only one of 3 joins leaks). I will try exhaust paste on the weekend and see if that helps to make a better seal.

what was the result of your endeavours and is the system working to your satisfaction?

Should I stay with the original system?

what sort of savings did you get from the UK? and how much was the total cost landed ie. including shipping?

also do you mind sending me the name of the company via PM so that i can avoid going there when i eventually get around to getting one...

The leak seems to have been sorted out with exhaust paste/putty.

Its not a bad system, but it doesnt really have quite the note that I was expecting - far more subdued. Throttle response is a bit sharper and it charges to the redline faster, but the performance increase is fairly subtle.

If I was to do it again, I would probably get a custom job made up here.

If you drive a Bora 4motion, you can't get a Milltek. Milltek dropped the system from their catalogue due to poor sales. I managed to get one of the last systems available that were made for a special one-off group buy on www.uk-mkivs.net . I had an awful time trying to organise the shipping, and it took 4 months from the time I ordered til the time I got it. The system also doesn't deliver as much as I had expected. The note is very subdued. I don't regret the purchase, but the custom system with Remus rear muffler I had on my old VR6 sounded heaps better.

If I had my time again I would look at get a custom job done here. If you do really want to get a system direct from the UK, I would recommend http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk . I haven't bought from them, but they stock all Milltek systems and are primarily an online store so should be setup for international shipping (the crowd I used was not).

Anyone else looking for a beautiful deep sounding off the shelf system have a look at the APR stainless system. Yep, they are pricy but I couldn't believe how nice it made the 1.8T sound, it actually exceeded my expectations (which were very high considering the $$$), it's the one thing people always comment on anytime the car is left in a shop for some service.

I had it professionally fitted and the guy commented that it was the nicest/easiest fitting system he'd worked with and wished they were all like it.

    Cheers,

That's true, but there was a couple of GTI owners in the thread asking about systems.

Has your system started to open up yet ? You could always try removing the resonator ?

It has a bit, but I wish it had the typical Milltek burble I have heard in many youtube vids. The sound is there, its just fairly subtle. I think if I removed the resonator my wife would remove me to the doghouse.
