It is quite possibly the black plastic clip has broken like on mine.

See part number 29 attached which is a carrier panel that has the plastic clip on it.

    Hi,
Ive got problem with my boot as well - this time the boot will not shut! will stay down but not lock (so the dash light comes on luggage compartment open) the boot handle seems to work ok makes same noise but the latch is not catching at the bottom
You think electric problem or mechanical?

I cant think of the component causing it but open it up and have a look.

Could be a faulty sensor, as I dont think it actually locks so much as doesnt respond to the open command when the car is locked. Thus turning the key will pop her open. But if its not locking more than likely it is something mechanical.

    Boot catch repair

Hi finally getting round to posting my work around.
Took it apart and ground the back of the thru rivet off, made a repair plate from thin ally glued it all back together with araldite rapid. After inserting some small screws to streghthen the part ,drilled and tapped the thru rivet and replaced all the parts. Electric boot works , well within the grasp of a competent diyer $$$ saved.
