That sounds like an awful lot for a service, even a major one. I service mine myself now as I cant justify paying a mechanic to do something I can do just as well with my choice of parts and fluids but its a personal option.
Hi everyone
I have my bora going in this Thursday for it's major service 120,000km
I'm taking it to mullermuller at lakemba NSW
Have been quoted approx 1200. They said that they would
- engine service
- front/rear diff service
- haldex service
Is there anything else that I should make sure that they do? It sounds like all that they are doing is oil and filter changes on the car??? If that's the case I could do it all myself and save some cash $$$$$$

For a comparison, look up Camden GTI in Campbelltown and see what they charge. Mention the forum.

Bump and thanks
$1200 is expensive but if you know they will do it right (synthetic oil, haldex filter change, complete replacement of gearbox/diff fluid) maybe it's better to spend a bit more than to find out later on that your $500 service wasn't done right and your haldex or diff or engine is now dead.
If it was me I would be getting a quote from Camden GTI before I commit.
I havent done a haldex service myself yet but I know the kit can be had from ecs for about $130US. I have done everything else on the list and can say that even going redline oils for the diff and gearbox, fully synthetic in the engine, new plugs etc the parts will cost you around $600 for top quality gear (including postage), half a day to do the service if you have the tools including car stands or ramps. You will need a 36mm socket to get the oil filter off, the haldex tool is included in the kit, you can make a bushmans tool to remove the diff filler plug with an old 17mm hex head bolt and 2 matching nuts (get under there and have a look at the tiny amount of space you have), the gearbox filler plug is the only PIA item as its a massive torx but before you run out and buy one check your wheel locknut key as it may be a perfect match like mine was.
Horses for courses really. Depends on how handy you are and if you like doing this kind of thing yourself![]()

hey dave,
did you contact Camden GTI ? How much did they quote you ?
I was chatting to the guys in Canberra/belconnen, and they said Haldex fluid change alone is about 200 or so...
but if they're actually going to replace your diff, diff-erent story (sorry about that pun) ...
let us know what they actually end up doing to your car; and how much; I'm probably going to have to have a similar service at some point

exactly. After I took the bora in to the guys at Belconnen and they fixed the diff up a bit (free of charge), they said I should try driving it around a bit before looking at getting a Haldex fluid change. No point pouring 200 down the drain if you actually need a new diff...

Diff and haldex are two different things this should be taken into account and it's extremley important, A recepit from any mechanic or dealership should state haldex filter change and diff oil change seperatley. The manual gearbox oil is the same for the bevel box this is done in one process so there should be no front diff cost only changing manual gear oil cost. If the persons don't know this or if you tell them and there not sure find somewhere else to service. And imo $1.200 parts and labour for the major is fair call!! Remember if your taking it to someone who knows there stuff it's a small price to pay for good job!!!
come to think of it, i found a service for $900 in my log books the previous owner did...
