Orange Dash Light of Car and Key. Immobiliser Problem?

    Hi all,

Having bit of a problem with my 99 Mkiv 1.8t.
Just last month I've managed to break my ignition barrel and had it repaired by a non VAG mechanic.
Today the car was driving fine, stopped and turned the car off while the missus was looking at a new place to move,
I was really tired and was trying to get some sleep, I could hear some sort of noise from the car but didnt make much of it.

Anyway, when we tried to leave, the car starts for a second and then dies.
The Orange dash light of the car and key symbol is flashing, along with the red battery light
I've tried to disconnect the battery but no look. also tried to leave the key in the 'on' position aswell

(Note: Battery was replaced last year, alternator was rebuilt last year)

Desperately need help because the car is only 2 streets away from my home, its really annoying knowing that its in a dodgy neighborhood since my last Skyline was stolen in this area.

    Thank You

Basically the immobilizer is cutting the car out, when it starts and dies after about 1 second its a immobilizer issue. you also have the key light flashing to confirm this... Do you have a spare key? If yes try that...does it start with the spare key? If it does then its the other key chip thats faulty and might need replacing or coding again...if both keys dont start the car then it could be the key reader ( the black plastic ring around the ignition barrel) or the immobilizer itself......VDUB...

hi thanks for the quick reply

yea i tried the spare key aswell. no lucky
car still sitting lonely in a random street.
I think when the non-vag mechanics repaired my ignition barrel they mustve screwed something up
any suggestions to fix this before i have to take the car back to the shop again?
(just got it back less than 3 weeks ago sigh)

    thanks

also try the key in different positions - i.e. insert key and try to start, if no luck turn pull the key, turn it over and put in the other way. Try with each key.

the reader, as VDMW said, is a loop around the barrel, if it has slipped a bit, it might not read the chip in the key. Same if it is broken or damaged.

you could hold the spare in various spots near the ignition barrel as you turn the other in an attempt for the reader and key to communicate

Yeah agree here, seems the repair or the damage caused prior. Ive had a few clusters lockup too, that's where your immob is but seeing it had repair in that very area I'd be looking there.
