There is only 2 reasons I don't want to sell it..
    1. Is I love the metallic green colour
    2. Is that it's still under finance for another 2 years.. I paid $12500 for it 3 years ago and the repayments are cheap

I'm in a similar position. So I looked up a few GTI's on car sales, and they're about $11,000+. That's a big difference compared to what I'd get for my 1.6L, about $4000 difference!

---------- Post added at 10:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:37 AM ----------

... On a further note (seeing as the GTI seems too expensive right now), would selling the 1.6L to get a 2L be a reasonable upgrade? HONEST answers please.

Can I please get some REALLY honest feedback on the 1.6L vs the 2L? I'm thinking that it might not be worth the trouble of selling my 1.6L (which I love the rare colour of), just to get a 2L (which some call 2.slow ?). But don't really know the ACTUAL difference between them, and what they can do.

I'm also looking into a CAI and Viezu tune as a 'cheaper' alternative, where I :
    1. keep the car, which I love the colour of,
    2. don't have to take all the new wheels & suspension: off + on to sell, then off + on again on the new car $$$,
    3. don't go without a car in between selling and buying (Public transport is a b!tch accross the flow, 3 changes),
    4. don't gamble on the 'condition' of the 2L/GTI, and how it's been driven, etc.

Would I still be wanting to 'spend more money on the 2L or GTI once I had it anyway? Or is stock GTI good to go?

That's a bummer about the 'weak gearbox' issue if you want to add a turbo or supercharger, I was REALLY liking the sound of the supercharger!!

I never know if I should start my own threads with this stuff, if it's already on-par with what I want to know. Apologies if I should, suggestions welcome.

The colour is proving to be a major vote for me too, my 1.6L is 'Blue Anthracite', aka Bluey Dark Grey Metallic. I love it, and am pretty sure I can't get it in the GTI..

What colours can you actually get in the GTI?

Can anyone else comment on ECU mapping/tuning on a 1.6L?

Also, I mainly just want a bit better oomph when in the lower revs, not really a race car.

    Is this your car kenbot?

I'd say enjoy it for what it is and save for what you want. 1.6L has to be pretty economical to run surely?

    Best Wishes.

Yep, that's my ride, straight after I got the coilovers put in. It looks a bit different now after adjusting the heights a bit more even. I'll try to get some newer pics up on the forum.

Yes, I think I've decided to go with what I've got at the moment. I love the colour, and since I got the coilovers, love how much better it drives now, I'll keep the 1.6L and just keep making it neater/cleaner.

I still really want to know what people honestly think about getting a CAI and an ECU re-map on the 1.6L's?

I couldn't imagine '10% across the rev range' would put the gearbox in that much jeopardy? Or is it the torque? Apparently the torque increase is quite noticeable. What did it cost to strengthen the 1.6L gearbox?

no sorry, I want the mk4 shape. nice engine though, real shame they didn't bring it out in mk4 here in Aus.

Feedback on the GTI Please, it won't last at that price, I'm sure. I've already contacted him.
