    I've done a few things this week as well as got a few deliveries;

Put in my W8 interior light which I love. I bought some SMD LED's for it also as the LED's in the back are so nice and white compared to the yellowish bulbs in the W8 light.

I got a badgeless grille which I love too, but I think I might just prefer my OEM Sport Oettinger grille. Besides, not sure if I can be arsed filling in the notch. Was considering buying a second bonnet to fill in and spray but we'll see. I still want to shave my boot, so might get both a bonnet and a boot lid to experiment with.

Got some brembo rear discs and pads delivered. The ones on my car are super lipped. Also got some HEL braided lines. So wil do at least the rear brake rotors, pads and lines this weekend. (I got new front rotors and pads for our passat also, so I might do them as well.)

The car is in the shop today getting a blown CV boot fixed - I know I said I'd do everything myself to this car, but last one I did was such a **** job, *so* not doing that again.

I bought a set of 40k old R32 shocks from the states, not sure if I'll just keep them as spares or use them yet.

Also, still super keen to do my cooling system, the bits have been sitting there for a while. I need to make sure I have a few extra days off so I can really take my time with it.

I have noticed a very small knock in my steering, its tiny. It could just be the power steering initiating, I know on my old GTR, there was a bit of a knock/nudge in the steering about 1cm into the turn which was just the power steering taking over. Hopefully its just that.

Also, the Skylines Australia nationals are on in Nov. I'll be there with the Bora so might try to get a session or two on the track at Wakefield. We'll see.

I'll get some pics over the weekend.

My stupid cheap headlights are clouding too and I want my height adjustment back, so I am planning on fixing up my OEM ones and Joey'ing them.

Lastly, I am thinking about building my own LED tail lights.

My 4 mo had something similar and ended up being the steering rack. PITA!

So, the CV's inner AND outer boot were blown and this is why ...

The shock had gone straight through the knuckle at the bottom that holds it in place and it was sitting on my CV. I had virtually no symtoms of this (a small rub at lock, but I thought it was just the splash guard.)

This has been fixed now, I dont even know how this could happen.

Anyway, the dude who sold me the R32 shocks pulled out of the sale and now I'm looking for shocks again. The coilovers are good, but I want the car a little higher and I lose a lot of ride quality the more I go up.

Unless the bolt in the collar of the strut housing wasn't done up tightly you must have hit the mother of all bumps ...

No big bumps, at least that I remember. And I would have remembered. I drive the same route to & from work daily (24k's round trip) and it never even gets looked at on the weekends. I know where all the potholes are on the trip.

The bolt was in nice and tight, he said something about it not lining up, but it looks 'in' properly in the pics, with the 'fin' (for want of a better name) sliding into the housing.

Do your shocks flair out from that point just above the collar? When I was fitting my new shocks the other day, I noticed a slight increase in the width of the shock where it comes to rest above the collar - it seemed to me that when the bolt in the collar is tightened with the 'fin' in place, it would be very difficult to force the shock further into the housing. It's always damn near impossible to get them out when replacing them that's for sure(!)

You'd need quite a lot of pressure to do it - can't remember are you on shocks or coils? (- thought I read somewhere that you were on coils wound up a little - would that place more pressure on the housing at all?)

Hmmm, I dont recall noticing if they get larger in diameter or not.

Yeah, I am on coils, they aren't 'high' by any means. Probably 1.5 finger width between tyre and guard. I'm probably only 50% of the way up the thread. But, I did put them in and it may just be that I didn't tighten it enough. I just don't remember a moment at all when there was either a bump or a bang or a change in steering etc. With what would be required to do this, surely there'd be something memorable that happened. And, as the CV is fine, it looks like it just slipped down slowly and came to a rest, any harder and more damage would have been done to the shaft and CV (well, I'd think so anyway.)

It seems possible that the accumulated pressure might have done this too like you say - maybe over time ... I know with one of my shocks I couldn't seat it any further into the housing by hand so I made sure the 'fin' was aligned then put the wheel back on and slowly lowered that side down to push it in. I could see how the pressure might push it further if the bolt was slightly loose.
