I'd still be tempted to say new mechanic time. How did they manage to diagnose a shot bearing when the sump simply wasnt put on right... not exactly hard. Also there's nothing to "re-assemble" on a sump other than bolting it to the motor... which your mechanic, not the welder should've done :/

Apparently the reccomended speed still holds some legal backing in Queensland even if it is under the posted speed limit.
I have been advised of this by both the police and the driver training instructor at work.

Glad your problem has been sorted out though

Are their windage trays in a V5 sump? If so, maybe the welder had to remove the windage trays to do the weld. He probably bolted them in upside down & the crank was hitting the sheet metal & making a knocking noise.

The windage trays are bolted in, I think they use the same 6mm allen key bolts that bolt the oil pump on, dont quote me I could be wrong.
They cant be fitted upside down as they are curved to the shape of the sump that has galleries cast in it. I'll take a photo of a sump if you like as I keep them in stock here.

Hmmm...now I'm starting to doubt my mechanic's ability. They've always seemed so good in the past...
