    Oil sump/pan needed

    Hey everyone,

I managed to crack my oil sump the other day ...

When I rang VW garage (here in Brisbane) they quoted me $340 for it ... :-O When looking at germanautoparts, it's priced at $95 (US dollars i'm guessing). It will still be cheaper with postage though.

Would anyone have any other places (in Australia if possible) where I can get a new sump?

    Thanks
    Max

Dumb question: Where do you guys buy general parts from?

Found this that suggested HSY or Imparts. Will have a look at them and see how much they charge.

Also, no one would have some spare one? Or could show me how to put it on myself? I have a vague idea on how to but I thought it would good to send the car to the mechanic (although expensive) to check if anything else got damaged under there... Any thoughts?

    Cheers,

If you want new, have a look on ebay as well. search with the engine code.

With that dealer price you could take it off and get it welded up for less.

Google KMJ they are a breakers in Brisbane, not been myself but know a few lads that do.

Thanks Gavin; stupid question: by engine code you mean part number??? :-S

Also, I find a lot of pans/sumps for 1.8T Golfs. I have a 1.6L one ... are they all the same or some are bigger/smaller and/or have different fittings?

The engine code is on the sticker in the service book. I don't play with 1.8s so I don't know the codes. Imparts and HSY can do it off your VIN number.

Hmm ok, don't have the service book on me (it's in the car, which is at a mate's...)

I found this on ebay: VW GOLF POLO SHARAN BORA NEW BEETLE OIL SUMP NEW 038103601NA 038103603N | eBay almost seems too good to be true!? it does have my part number on there.

I looked around to see if I could find my engine code via my VIN (which I know as I have it saved on my computer) but couldn't find it

The parts catalogue uses the VIN to identify the engine in the car. Are you saying the part number from your sump is in that listing? If you are sure you have the correct part number then buy the sump.

You should have a look and check that yours has the level sensor in though to be sure.

When I rang the VW dealer to find out how much a new sump would be, they sent me a quota via email (after I gave them my VIN) and that's the part number that they gave me: 038103603N

That one that I found on eBay is dirt cheap but is coming from Poland ... I'm trying to find something in Australia (at a reasonable price) but is it just me or there's no VW parts sellers in Australia (apart from the, overpriced, official dealer)?

Get one from the UK if you don't like the idea of buying from Poland. Depends what your priority is. VW prices here are a joke really. No one in Belgium that can drop by a dealer for you?

It's not that I don't like the idea of buying in Poland (or anyone outside Australia)
I would just like to get a new one as quickly as possible!!!! Not quite sure how long my little Silicone seal will last haha
