Welding it would be quick depending on how big the hole is. I know a fella in Kallangur that would do it. There would be people down south too. Google aluminium welding or something.

Fixing it would be an option if anyone could do with me!? I would like to do be there when it happens at least
If anyone can say what they think of these silicone gels ... are they actually any good? Obviously welding would ideal (if we don't count getting a new sump).
I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow (although the crack is not visible anymore because of that silicone sealant/gel I put); but to give an idea it's about a 2-3 cm crack I think.

Providing the sump was spotless when you put the sealer on. You could be lucky. I'd not leave it forever though. It'll fail when you least need it.

I cleaned it (the outside) as best as I could given that I was in the middle of nowhere when it happened haha.
But yea, kinda paranoid driving with this silicone sealant on it as it could probably start leaking anywhere at any given time. Hence why I want it fix asap. In saying that, I know that it's something that shouldn't be that hard to fix (or replace) and that it's probably DIY friendly (instead of paying a mechanic to do it ...)

Just bought a new sump for $195 from ASV (Euro Car Parts). Still a bit overpriced for my liking but it was the best I could find at short notice. I think I'll keep the other one (the cracked one) and weld it when I have time that way I got a spare

definately keep the old one and weld it up. I cracked mine and got a fella to weld it up for 50 bucks. And he put heaps of material in it so hopefully its a heap stronger now too. Handy to have a second one up your sleeve!!!
