    Oil pressure warning light issue

    Heya all,

So my Bora 4mo has decided to throw up a oil pressure warning. Not sure what to make of it.

I have recently once again changed my sump (for the 3rd time) due to cracking it while removing the drivers side driveshaft so I'll need to check if any gasket goo is pressed against the pickup.

However, failing that, I'll need to follow the usual list with oil pressure issues including checking the actual oil pressure, the oil pressure sensors, the engine oil pump and the health of the engine.
With regards to this - are the oil pressure sensors known to fail? Any have an idea of what pressure should I expect from a 2.8L AUE ? (I know from experience that oil pressure needs to be fairly consistent movement with RPMs and should not fluctuate much plus drop below 15psi-ish). Are there any telltale signs of an engine is trouble?

This pressure warning is scaring me a bit because I don't want to drive the car in case it's an oil pressure issue and I risk destroying the engine. In the case if it was a sensor, then I wouldn't be worried too much, but I don't exactly want to take the risk.

    Ideas? thoughts? input?

    Cheers!

I would not start it again until you have checked the oil pump pick up. It takes such a short time to cause damage, it's not worth it.

If that's clear, fit a mechanical gauge and see what pressure you get.

I haven't started it since I drove it home after the warning, however I did drive a good hour or so with the warning going on and off during the drive. Weirdly the car showed no signs of any drop in performance or overheating issues as expected if there was a oil pressure issue. Full power and not even a strange noise or anything
Hopefully there's no damage done but being that I was up a mountain at 10pm at night, I didn't have a huge amount of options :/

I'm taking off the sump and inspecting that pick up.

Any suggestions/hints where else I should look?
