Oil Leak from Golf 99 1.6L

    Hi,

I'm newbie to the forum, as I've just bought a VW Golf 99.

My question is, there's an oil leak form the bottom of the car (not much, just drips of it). What could be the reason? or most likely reason?

Looking for a good repairer without costing too much to get it serviced soon, just so I can start driving it around with confidence of not breaaking down...

    Cheers...

Check the oil filter is done up tight enough for a start, have noticed that leaking if I don't do it up tight enough! otherwise, degrease the whole thing, drive for a week and see if you can find tell tales. I believe rocker covers can be a bit leaky...

Can you see any around the back of the engine? or sort of work out where its leaking from (front, back, passenger or drivers side)?

If it's from between the engine and gearbox, could be rear main oil seal.

You will need to see if it is coming from low down on the engine or running down from the top of the engine.

In Sydney I have heard GolfLoon (on this forum) is a good place to start for repairs.

If you're losing oil you might want to check the dipstick and see how much is remaining as well ...

changed the oil and oil filter today, and the leak stopped. I was suspecting it was from the oil filter (not tightened enough and properly).

    Thanks anyway
