Limp mode i'd say, from overboosting.
Just got into the office after an emotional drive here. I have a small problem...
I pulled out into traffic and had to move pretty quick so I put my foot down a little and it pulled out normally. It felt a little funny but I thought it may have just been the wheels doing their usual song and dance.
I then had to move lanes which required use of my leg muscles. I noticed the power seemed to have cut but then came back...
From here on I kept playing to try and figure out what was going on.
Doc, the symptoms are:
Once I get to about 3k RPM under open throttle the power seems to cut out but it does come back and then disappears.
I'll give some clues on what I've done over the last few weeks: 3" Induction pipe, modified air box with BMC panel and I also fitted a ABD TIP.
I haven't had a chance to look at anything yet, and I suspect it might be because of my handy work after working a week of graveyard shifts.
Q. Does this sound like limp mode? I would have thought limp mode would have killed all power not come on/come off. I suspect it's a vacuum issue and I'm praying it's the small pipe that connects midway on the sidewall of the turbo intake pipe.
Note: I also discovered whilst modifying my air box that there was no air filter in the car. I’ve had the car for approx 3000k’s. This was quickly fixed.
Any other ideas or suggestions? I'm praying it's not the MAF, but would it be worthwile to try and give it a clean?
Limp mode i'd say, from overboosting.
Theres different types of limp mode - Overboosting (And I dont see why it would with his mods) just cuts boost rather than cuts power at certain RPM.
Mine was doing this when my MAF was dead - But it was a hard limpmode, wouldn't rev past 3000 and had absolutely no power.
VAGCOM would sort it out.
Don't be too worried even if it is your MAF - VAgpartsUK - ~$200 delivered in 7days.
hmmm,,,
neil, double check your pipe handy work.its pretty good the abd pipe as the allen key bolt holds it in place.you did put the rubber on the inside of the pipe right???check that you have placed the metal ring that holds the pipe to the abd tip.
it does sound like limp mode.more than boost leak.I had a small leak and it wasnt going into limp mode.it two completely different feelings.
I suspect it has something to do with your no airfilter mystery!!
After running no airfilter for a while I'd suggest you change your oil ASAP and then very shortly (~1000kms) after that.
From what I've read - Can fill your engine with crap very quickly.
Loosing boost?
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...
ok,disconnect the maf and see if it still does it. long rectangular connection straight after airbox.
try this instead before any of that (sorry guys) lol, i speak from experience on this haha...
disconnect your battery for 8-10 mins [negative side]. reconnect it and see how you go then. if it goes back to normal then yes you are overboosting or that fuel is all over the place (mixtures) or nice dead maf? .. im sure bug_racer could answer this one
otherwise try everything as mentioned heehe
What’s behind you doesn’t matter..
